Keep An Eye On Your BMI

Obesity is becoming a serious problem in the UK. Over half the UK population is either overweight or obese, and if current trends continue it is estimated that at least 1/3 of adults will be obese by 2020.

If you are obese you have a significantly increased risk of suffering from coronary artery disease; stroke; several types of cancer; and osteoarthritis.

You are more likely to develop high blood pressure; Type 2 diabetes; and asthma, amongst many other conditions.
Obesity is also one of the causes of impotence; infertility; complications in pregnancy and labour; as well as birth defects in infants.

The risk of premature death or serious illness increases with even a moderate amount of excess fat: 4.5 to 9 kg (10 to 20 lbs) for an adult of average height. So it is important to be aware of your weight.
