Extra Exercise
“I have two doctors, my left leg and my right.”
(G M Trevelyan, English historian, 1913)
Regular exercise provides many health benefits, such as:
- Boosting your immune system and cardiovascular health
- Enhancing muscle tone and bone density
- Improving balance, strength and coordination
- Helping with weight control
- Increasing levels of "good cholesterol"
- Improving your mood and reducing the risk of depression
- Increasing life expectancy
However, our busy modern lifestyles are often more sedentary than they should be.
Increasing the amount of exercise you take is easier than you might think. Regularly getting off the bus one stop too early, or taking the stairs instead of the lift, will be beneficial without too much change to your daily routine.
Housework and gardening are also good forms of exercise!
Rule of thumb: aim to take 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day.
